Privacy Policy
Short version: Lumen collects nothing about you. The long version is below, in plain language.
Summary
Lumen does not collect your personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting of our own, no advertising and no cookies, in the app or on this website. The app only connects to the four footage servers listed below, to show and download the wallpapers you choose. Videos you add yourself never leave your Mac.

Lumen is developed and published by Backstreet Ventures Private Limited, a company incorporated in India ("we", "us"). We are the data controller responsible for this policy.

The Lumen app
Lumen works entirely on your Mac. We do not operate any server for it, so there is nowhere for your data to go.
- No account. Lumen never asks for your name, email address or any login.
- No analytics or telemetry. Lumen contains no analytics, tracking, advertising or crash-reporting code, and no third-party SDKs.
- No identifiers. Lumen does not create or send any device, advertising or user identifier.
- Local storage only. Your settings, favourites, wallpaper history, downloaded clips, prepared video files, still frames and the copy of your original wallpaper are stored in Lumen's own folder on your Mac. They are never transmitted.
- Your videos. Videos you add in My Uploads are copied into Lumen's folder on your Mac and are never uploaded.
To do its job, Lumen changes your desktop picture after saving a copy of the current one. These changes stay on your Mac and can be undone from within the app.
Network connections
Lumen connects to the internet for one purpose only: to fetch the open-licensed footage in its catalogue. It contacts exactly these hosts, and no others:

When you browse the library, Lumen streams small parts of each clip from these servers to build thumbnails and previews. When you choose a wallpaper, it downloads the full file. These are ordinary web requests: like any website you visit, the server can see your IP address, the file requested and basic technical details such as the macOS networking version. Lumen adds nothing about you to these requests. Each provider handles that information under its own privacy policy.
Opening System Settings from Lumen happens locally and involves no network connection.
Mac App Store
Lumen is distributed through Apple's Mac App Store. Apple processes your download under Apple's own privacy policy; we never receive your name, Apple Account or payment details. Apple gives developers aggregated sales and download reports that do not identify you.
If you have chosen, in your Mac's settings, to share analytics and crash data with app developers, Apple may share anonymised, aggregated usage and crash statistics with us through App Store Connect. This is controlled by you in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements, and we use it only to fix bugs.
This website
This site is a set of static pages. It uses no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising, no third-party fonts, scripts or embeds, and no forms. Its only script runs in your browser to power the menu and video previews, and it sends nothing anywhere.
The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. Like every web host, Vercel automatically processes basic request data (such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) to deliver pages and protect the service from abuse. We do not use this data for analytics or marketing. See Vercel's privacy policy for details.
Links to other sites, such as the Mac App Store or the footage providers, are governed by those sites' own policies.
Cookies
Neither the app nor this website uses cookies, local storage for tracking, fingerprinting or similar technologies. There is therefore no cookie banner, because there is nothing to consent to.
When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it only to reply and to help with your request. We keep support emails only as long as needed to resolve your question and for a reasonable period afterwards, and we delete them sooner on request. We never sell, share or use them for marketing.
Children
Lumen does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no personal data, it can be used by people of any age that Apple's App Store rating allows.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, the EU and UK GDPR or California's CCPA give you rights to access, correct, delete or object to the use of your personal data. Since the only personal data we could hold is an email you sent us, you can exercise any of these rights simply by writing to advait8989@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising or profiling.
Security
All connections Lumen makes use HTTPS. Data stored by Lumen stays in your user account on your Mac and is protected by macOS like the rest of your files.
Changes to this policy
If Lumen ever starts handling data differently, we will update this page before the change takes effect and change the effective date below. If a change is significant, we will also mention it in the changelog.
